431 zelda breath of the wild - big weird metal door near the faron stable

Dear Readers,

So far the most annoying Faron Koroks are the ones around the waterfalls that involve a metal block.

I learned you can use Cryonis to make sideways ice pillars. Or maybe I did it before but don't quite remember. I gave up on one puzzle because the metal fell all the way down below and the puzzle was near the top.

I got the puzzle at the bridge waterfall since it was closer to the ground, but all the same it was very annoying and taxing. It was hard to get the positioning right so I could grab the metal block out of the water.

Once I got away from the waterfalls, Things got easier. I had to set a bunch of leaves on fire at the stable for another Korok. Other Koroks in the hills nearby had bunches of enemies in the way, but they were ok to deal with.

For some reason I found a big metal door in one of the ponds? I wonder if it belongs to anything.

430 zelda breath of the wild - faron koroks are annoying

Dear Readers,

I mean every word. It's very annoying hunting for Koroks in Faron, especially around the waterfalls area. Visibility is poor due to all the foliage, the bad weather and just the general murkiness of the graphics here.

The big dragon comes by every day and electrocutes you. It's so big it's hard to avoid it.

The area is densely packed with Koroks as well. They put way too many of them here.

The Koroks at the waterfalls are super annoying if you have to place metal blocks, because you can drop them in the water and it's a massive hassle switching between cryonis and magnesis trying to fish them out.

Lightning elemental wizzrobes are around here too and are very troublesome if they spot you. I just wanna find Koroks in peace!

429 zelda breath of the wild - relaxing at a cave with a korok

Dear Readers,

There are times in this game you just wanna hang out and enjoy it. While I was tracking down Koroks I found one in a very small cave. It provided a little shelter from the rain that was coming. I uncovered the Korok, set up a fire and knelt next to it and just looked out at the rain. It was a nice time with nice quiet company.

It can be found near the big tree in between Loshlo Harbour and Keya Pond. It was a lovely little secluded place to hang out.

The rain lasted until nighttime so I decided to just spend the night here. I'm spending a lot of time in the wilderness lately, so I set up fires to save me a few loading screens that would come with warping and I don't want to fight skeleton monsters right now.

428 zelda breath of the wild - korok golfing

Dear Readers,

I'm in the mountains of Necluda and I'm gathering many many Korok seeds. I've come across a big pool of water with a circle of stones in the centre. The only way I could get a rock inside it was to hit it carefully with stasis.

It was fairly awkward and it took me about half a dozen tries, but there were many rocks here. I had to be at a certain distance, facing a certain way, positioned a certain way, etc. It was very much like I was golfing in a Zelda game.

It's kinda fun, though not so much when it doesn't work out. I've used Stasis very little in the game besides solving puzzles. Last time I used a raft and another time I used octo balloons, but I think I like this golfing thing more than either of them.

427 zelda breath of the wild - koroks in lurelin village

Dear Readers,

I continued the Korok seed hunt towards Lurelin Village.

It was very nice diving in the circles of flowers for seeds. The ones on the roofs of the houses were tricky though. With one I had to pick off an apple that was in the wrong place. With another I had to chase the flower between different trees.

The trickiest of all was the circle of stones on one of the roofs. The stone I needed was on the ground and I had to figure out how to get it up on the roof.

I tried Octo balloons and the Korok Leaf but I was still having trouble. Then I learned that I had to go into first person Korok Leaf mode by using the R button. This let me aim where I wanted to fan the leaf. I had no trouble then.

426 zelda breath of the wild - koroks on hateno beach

Dear Readers,

I went beachcombing for the next new Korok seeds.

It's a lot of fun splashing around in rock pools looking for them. I think my favourite way to find them so far is to dive into a body of water with a circle of flowers.

There was one fairly difficult part where there was a circle of stones in the water that was too far to throw a stone into from dry land. What I did instead was use a map online to find a raft I was able to use to carry the rock nearer to the circle of stones. I also learned(or remembered I'm not sure) that I can make a fire on the raft to change night back to day. That is very handy.

I'm sure it was intended that I use stasis and do some kind of golfing technique to shoot the rock into the circle of stones, but I wanted to use a raft, even though it took a while to sail it over here. There were lots of stones lying around so I could've taken many shots.

425 zelda breath of the wild - korok hunting in hateno

Dear Readers,

I downloaded a map with the Korok seeds filled in and I'm now using it to help me find all the seeds! It'll be very handy. I do not feel like exploring this world without a guide anymore.

I marked off about 8 and already I got attacked by Yiga, water Octorok and got sniffed at by Bokoblins. I don't want to deal with any of them right now.

Why didn't I think of climbing to the tip top of Hateno lab before? I thought I'd at least do that. Anyway, I have it now!

I'm starting close to my house in Hateno and I'm using MS Paint to make marks on the map as I go along.

424 zelda breath of the wild - filling the compendium completely!

Dear Readers,

I put off the Lynels for now and went back to the Compendium filling. To my surprise, the only ones I had left to fill involved paying Robbie 1000s of rupees and the rest were Lynel drops.

I also learned from research online that Lynels become Silver Lynels, which means there are drops that just won't happen anymore.

I decided to heck with it and I went to the Hateno Lab to ask to fill every remaining space I had left in the Compendium. It saved me money in the end.

I forget what his name is but he gave me a letter containing a picture of a pretty Sheikah lady as a reward for filling the Compendium/Pokédex.

I think that's pretty much it for me and this Zelda. I could get the rest of the Korok seeds I suppose. I have about 200 of them or so.

423 zelda breath of the wild - hunting lynels!

Dear Readers,

I was missing some stuff from Lynels, so that meant I had to go hunting them. I'm finally at that stage! Normally I shy well away from them!

I was very rusty with dealing with them but I managed the ones at Zora's Domain, Lanayru Road and surprisingly, the coliseum ruins okay.

I did have a lot of trouble with the one near Tabantha stable. It took ages to beat this Silver Lynel. It seemed to not make the same moves as the other ones and it was on uneven ground so it was hard to dodge and initiate flurry rush. I beat it after many tries.

While I was at the coliseum I did some exploring. Not much here except regular enemies, but they have all the elemental swords and spears! That'll be handy to know! I noticed the coliseum itself was a very steep structure. Spectators might have trouble seeing what's going on? I don't know...

One thing I learned was that blue-maned lynels were now scarce because they were being replaced by silver ones. That happens when you progress too much according to information I've seen online. They can still be found in Hyrule Castle's first guardhouse as the one there stays the same. I would not have figured that myself... I'm 100% glad I'm looking things up now.

422 zelda breath of the wild - buying weapons from robbie and kilton for the compendium

Dear Readers,

It was no wonder I was missing certain weapons that were only obtainable if you bought them. I didn't use Robbie's shop that much if at all and I wasn't going to bother with the bouncy hammer from Kilton, but I still needed their weapons for the compendium.

I scraped some rupees together, traded some moblin bits and pieces and I got Kilton's hammer and Robbie's ancient short sword.

I was able to use this sword to finish the long outstanding weapon connoisseur side quest. That took forever.

Again, I wouldn't have any notion of going near those guys if I didn't look up how to get these.

421 zelda breath of the wild - collecting all the wizzrobes for the compendium

Dear Readers,

I wanted to find all the Wizzrobes for the Compendidum. There are six of them instead of three, with the other three being more powerful versions I suppose.

I searched Tabantha Frontier trying to find the electric one and I eventually found it in the hills north of the tower.

It took forever for me to find the fiery one as well. The clue I had was that it was in Eldin Canyon, but I couldn't find it there. I had to do a more thorough search online and I eventually found some information that told me it was in around some woods in Akkala. I searched everywhere in these woods and there was no sign at all. It was frustrating.

I then noticed some ruins on the Eldin mountains nearby. I went there and finally found the fiery wizzrobe. I was able to locate it with the radar by searching for the meteor rod. The only other one of those I had was from a treasure chest. I took its picture for the compendium and beat it up.

I then lingered for a bit, wondering why there was ever a building in this place. Maybe it was a monastery or some other kind of religious building in the mountains. It's all ruins now though.

420 zelda breath of the wild - searching for the sanke carp

Dear Readers,

It took me ages to find this dang fish and the only clue I had to go by was that it was in West Necluda. I searched all the rivers and ponds and little lakes in this area. I found plenty of other fish and Koroks but no sanke carp. I then randomly warped to Kakariko and it was just there in the water around Impa's house. No idea why, but I didn't feel like asking any other questions. I took a photo for the compendium and grabbed a few before going on to the next thing.

419 zelda breath of the wild - pokémon snapping sparrows and beetles for the compendium

Dear Readers,

I decided to go fill the compendium. My new ninja suit came in handy as it's very easy to go up to animals like birds, bugs and fish without scaring them away!

I took pictures of various sparrows in Hyrule. I needed ones from Hyrule Field and the ones on Faron Bridge. They weren't too difficult to find, thankfully.

Then I went after those big beetles that Beedle likes. I looked in the hills of Faron on bare trees and I forget the other region but I was able to find it without too much trouble. I then gave them to Beedle and he was very happy indeed.

I even had to take a picture of Blondie as there was a white horse entry I needed to fill. I'm glad I looked for help online to fill the Compendium.

418 zelda breath of the wild - bought a new ninja suit

Dear Readers,

I saved up enough to buy the Sheikah outfit from Kakariko Village. I put it on and I was able to run faster at night and go right up to bugs and fish without alarming them. It feels pretty good!

I spent a good bit of time upgrading the suit as well. The most difficult part was finding enough of the stealthfin trout as it's almost nowhere to be found in the game. The Compendium told me it can be found in the Eldin Mountains but it was wrong. Nothing but lava and steep slopes in that area. I'm not going to trust this thing again.

In fact, I'm going to look up where to find entries that I'm missing instead of trying to find them. I'm not going to get fed up with the flaws in this game like I did with Xenoblade. At least not on that scale anyway.

I found these trout at Saria Lake in the lost woods and in the river south of the wood land stable. They're also around Makar Island but they're very hard to reach. Makar Island itself is just a very nothing kind of place. Aside from the usual enemies there's nothing that really stands out about the place.

I stuck with the river strategy and passed a few nights in bed to make them regenerate. I eventually upgraded the ninja outfit fully. I upgraded the snow and sand boots a little bit too.

417 zelda breath of the wild - thinking about what to do now that the shrines have been completed

Dear Readers,

After finishing the last shrine, I warped to the shrine in the Forgotten Temple and upgraded my last upgrade at the gigantic goddess statue. There were now three treasure chests here and they had gear that made me look like traditional Link! With the hood and everything!

It was very nice but I was now feeling kinda sad that all the shrine stuff was done now. This game took me a very long time to achieve this much. I don't feel bad about looking up where the remaining shrines were because I'll probably forget enough that it'll feel fresh when I play this game again someday.

There's still stuff to do. I can go for Korok seeds and I'd like to fill the compendium. I have a lot of empty spaces and I'm not sure how to fill them. I'll definitely have to look some stuff up but I'll see how far I can go without doing that.

416 zelda breath of the wild - sho dantu shrine, the final shrine at last!

Dear Readers,

I had a bit of trouble finding this one, even with the online guide. It didn't come up on radar and it doesn't have a shrine quest associated with it. It was northwest of the Gerudo Tower and on top of a cliff above the path leading to the Yiga hideout. All I needed to do when I found it was to place a luminous stone on the activation platform. There were plenty of them to mine around here.

This was a nice chilled out string of puzzles involving timing of the two bombs. A very nice one to finish up the shrines entirely. I'm not counting the DLC ones here.

The final monk congratulated me for completing the shrines and told me there was a reward waiting for me at the Forgotten Temple.

415 zelda breath of the wild - melting slightly at kuh takkar shrine

Dear Readers,

I followed an online guide until I found this shrine in the Gerudo Highlands. It was completely encased in ice with some ice wizzrobes around it so I had to deal with them first. I then lit a fire and a torch and stood for a few minutes to melt the ice down so I could enter the shrine.

The monk wanted me to offer them an ice block and I had to navigate all the flamey obstacles in order to reach them. I got really stuck on the last one where the flames blew straight down. I wasn't able to use the metal crate for this one.

I tried various things. My fire proof suit came in handy while I was experimenting. I eventually abandoned the idea of using the metal crate and just ran through the flames while carrying the ice block out of sheer desperation. To my surprise the ice block didn't melt completely and only shrank a bit. It was still good enough to use as an offering though! That took a bit of time but I finally got the orb.

414 zelda breath of the wild - hunting icy lizalfos for their tails

Dear Readers,

I wanted to upgrade some gear and I just needed 30 icy Lizalfos tails, so I warped to Hebra to hunt for them.

Wandering that flat plain north of the stable was so nice while looking for them. Not too many weird obstacles at all and I only had to look out for the Lynel that roams around here.

I hunted until I couldn't pick up any more on the radar. I then warped to a spot in the mountains near Selmie's Spot and hunted the rest of what I needed. I got all the tails I needed and upgraded my gear at a Great Fairy's place.

413 zelda breath of the wild - namika ozz shrine right under my nose!

Dear Readers,

Here's a shrine I passed by many times and had no idea it was there! I was glad to see it on the map online. It's on a hill east of Hyrule Castle.

Within was a modest test of strength. I went in and wiped out the Guardian very quickly.

412 zelda breath of the wild - more scales at kah mael shrine

Dear Readers,

Kah Mael shrine is on Tingel Island off the coast of Akkala. It's easy enough to get there as long as you keep moving. I got attacked several times, twice by Yiga before I even got to the archipelago. The helicopter guardians look threatening but they didn't spot me at all. I found the shrine in a cavern under a slab.

This was another shrine that had a scale puzzle. I released a metal crate that was suspended high above by cutting ropes with arrows and used that crate along with the metal barrel to help launch me up and also to get the treasure. It went very well.

411 zelda breath of the wild - maka rah shrine

Dear Readers,

I found this shrine in Hebra, down at the dock at Lake Kilsie. I recall being here before but I had no notion there was a shrine here. You can see it through a crack in the wall, but you have to glide in through a cave up on one of the cliffsides.

I went in and took on the challenge.

It was more or less just an obstacle course without any major puzzle. I had to avoid spiked balls and deflect some lasers back at some basic Guardian Scouts. It was fairly straightforward but the spiked balls did startle me at times! The chests were easy to spot as well.

410 zelda breath of the wild - looking up the rest of the shrines

Dear Readers,

I took a notion to save up to buy the sneaky Sheikah gear from Kakariko Village, so I warped there to check the price, which is about 1,800 rupees for the full set (I'm not sure but I think that's the number). I then went warping around Hyrule to pick apples. I found quite a few but it wasn't enough. I'll do it again when they grow back.

I then started looking for shrines. I only have a few left and I don't know where they are. I wandered around some hills with a very sparse amount of map markings. I didn't find any and instead I met a lot of enemies, including the annoying Yiga.

It's not really fun to roam the map anymore with these Yiga on top of everything else that's out to kill me, so I'm going to look up the locations of these shrines online. I really wanna get through this so I can move on from this game. It's taking me way too long to finish my first playthrough of it.

409 zelda breath of the wild - balancing scales in qua raym shrine

Dear Readers,

I took on this shrine I found without a radar or a quest which was a nice thing to happen. I came across these scale platforms that led to the orb but there were cracked block and spike obstacles.

I set one crate on fire with an arrow I lit from a torch and that gave me a chest with a key to open up the cage with the metal crates. After that it was a matter of using them to help me reach the monk. I used two metal crates to elevate me and one metal crate to help umbrella me from the spikes overhead. I was able to get to the monk then.

I had some trouble when I made this platform go too high and I couldn't use the metal crates to fit in the space between the platform and the spikes so I had to use one of my swords with magnesis to get it in the gap before forcing the platform downwards. It took a while but it worked.

408 zelda breath of the wild - hunting for red lizalfos tails in eldin and gerudo

Dear Readers,

I set my radar to the fire breathing Lizalfos, the ones that drop red Lizalfos tails. I wanted to get 30 of them for my upgrades.

I roamed the desert for a bit and found most of them in the ruins between the town and the ice house. After that I couldn't find many of them, so I warped to Eldin Canyon.

From the Sheikah tower in Eldin, I followed my radar to hunt many more of these fire Lizalfos. I got on much better here and got the 30 tails I needed for the upgrades.

I had to lure some of them out of the lava lakes as I couldn't follow them in. My radar kept picking up on ones that were on higher ground so I ended up warping around the place. Some parts were just too high to use Revali's elevator gale thingy.

I also found Qua Raym shrine by happy accident! It was on an island so I used metal crates as stepping stones to reach it.

407 zelda breath of the wild - waking up the great fairy of the desert

Dear Readers,

I decided to take the plunge and awaken the final great fairy. I forget her name but she's in the desert and she's the oldest one. She also coughs, probably because she lives in the sandstormy desert.

It took 10,000 rupees to get her to come out and I scraped together the remaining few hundred I needed by selling more of my world famous simmered fruit dishes.

After waking her up, I now had a whole new level of upgrades available for my equipment. I upgraded my Hylian and Zora stuff to 20 points each since I had all the stuff I needed and decided to go out hunting for Red Lizalfos tails.

406 zelda breath of the wild - Noya Neha Shrine

Dear Readers,

Between the last post and this post I don't remember anything except that I found this shrine on a map someone else made online. It was a minor test of strength and I hadn't completed it yet.

Given the name I must've made very short work of the Guardian in here and I got the orb with no hassle at all. The location of the shrine itself is kind of out of the way. It's on a little island near the castle.

405 zelda breath of the wild - guiding balloons at kah okeo shrine

Dear Readers,

I remember this one taking ages because I had to navigate balloon tied platforms around spiky obstacles. I wanted to clean out the chests as well so it took even longer. I solved it though and obtained the orb.

I found this shrine after I left the entrance of Tanagar Canyon. It was in an underground cave under a heavy slab.

404 zelda breath of the wild - solving dunba taag shrine a while ago

Dear Readers,

This shrine was very easy to find. I just looked at a cave in Tanagar Canyon and there it was, clear as day. I sauntered in.

I went back to look at the puzzles of this place months after I finished it. I don't remember much about it at all except for letting the big slab fall on the big switch which must've been satisfying at the time. There's not a lot else I remember about this place sorry. I got the orb from the monk and left.

403 zelda breath of the wild - exploring tanagar canyon

Dear Readers,

I started exploring Tanagar Canyon on foot. I had explored the temple before, but now I wanted to explore the rest of it on foot. I wanted to see if I could bring a horse down here.

When I got to the end it seems that I can! Or not. I don't remember that well. It was a few months ago. In any case, I was able to go out the other end of the canyon without any laborious climbing.

I came across some Stalmoblins and a bunch of other enemies. I switched masks to suit the situation.

Getting through the canyon was simple enough. I came across some shrines too! I'll talk about them shortly.

402 zelda breath of the wild - exploring lake darman and the deplian badlands

Dear Readers,

I took a break from playing this game for several months and there were entries I had forgotten to make. I hope I can piece things together from memories!

I decided to explore the lava lake at Eldin. I saw that there was an uncharted path on the eastern shore along that really long minecart ride on the lava lake. I went there and followed this path to see where it would take me.

I found many enemies and the odd Korok too. On this path the only things that were charted were the bridges and that's what got me curious about this route. This took me to a part of the lava lake called Lake Darman. I guess it's named after the hero Goron from Majora's Mask.

I continued trekking until I left the lava area entirely and made my way down to the Deplian Badlands. I decided to trek through the entire area on foot westwards. I met several Lynels and snuck past them using my mask.

I kept trekking until I got to the start of Tanagar Canyon. I stood still, continuing to wear the mask, which made me assume a majestic pose as I looked over the canyon ahead. I decided to explore the whole canyon on foot as I had never done it before.

401 zelda breath of the wild - beating up the three hinox brothers

Dear Readers,

Up until now I had barely explored the mountains south of Dueling Peaks Stable. While searching for that shrine next to the river I got a taste of it and wanted to continue.

I started from the hot spring and continued roaming the mountains. I found lots of ponds, trees and hillsides that felt new and unspoiled by road construction or warp points. I kept an eye out for any new shrines and eventually I found a pedestal!

When I got closer, it turned out to be three pedestals! There was a stone plaque that told me about the three Hinox brothers that lived in the surrounding areas. Each one of them had an orb and I had to go to each area and beat them all up. It's a good thing I didn't have to take them all on at once.

They were all nearby. The first one I fought was at the Rabella Wetlands and he was surrounded by Bokoblins, many of whom just seemed to be chilling out. I haven't really seen them be chill like this before. Maybe it was because they lived so remotely. I beat some of them up before I took on the big guy. I managed to keep him on the mound he was sleeping on with lots of attacks and arrows to the eye. I defeated him handily.

I used a different strategy with the other two brothers. They were both at a much lower elevation than the area with the pedestals. They were both sleeping under giant skeleton rib cages so I just stood on top of the ribs while I rained bombs and arrows down on them. I beat them all handily. These other brothers didn't have any Bokoblins around them.

I gathered all the orbs, placed them in the pedestals and Tawa Jinn Shrine burst from the ground. No further trial inside — just a blessing.
