14 travis strikes again: no more heroes - reading retro game magazine articles about the death drive mark II console in the hangout trailer

Dear Readers,

The next thing to check out in the trailer was the archive of magazine articles! This was all from "Death Drive Magazine" and it was just like looking up PDFs of old game magazines. I'm delighted to see this :)

It was just like looking up the scanned manuals in Sonic retro compilations back in the GameCube days. I could look around the page and zoom in on parts. It was really nice!

First article was all about the Death Drive Mk II console itself. What a strange machine! It's got an audio cassette loader, an aroma pot and two old Macintosh mice hardwired into it.

The font of the article itself was easy to read with white text on sunset orange background. I appreciate that.

The point about the DAT tapes processing games at "ludicrous speeds" is pretty humorous :)

The whole thing about the pot is silly too; the 2MB feature, the prediction on how it'll enable you to cook ramen while you play... it's pretty funny and reminiscent of old magazines :)

The thing about the controller seems to be just a prediction and artist impression. the never before seen type of controller described is obviously a nod to the Wii Remote.

The next point about not needing to hook up to a TV is definitely a nod to the Wii U, which didn't always need a TV; and the Switch, which doesn't need a TV at all. The thing about electrical signals going right to your brain is the kind of fantasy futuristic thinking that still happens today.

The hype gets even crazier in the peripherals section. The mouse housing socket looks like a controller storage to me, but here they talk about how they predict you'll be able to hook up your console to a friend's, which is something I've heard a million times with old games consoles! People constantly talked about it, yet hardly anyone ever did it haha. They also predict this awful thing about putting chemicals in the aroma pot that'll unlock levels. I'm sensing a parallel here with DLC *shakes fist*

The next section talks about games, them being the sequel to Electric Thunder Tiger that I just played and a total of six games at launch. That's the total library isn't it? Oops! There were a lot of consoles and computers back then that were that short-lived alright... They had such excitement and hype about them too from magazines, but that was the fun of them! Can't wait to read more :)
