3 monster hunter stories - learning the battle system

Dear Readers,

Now it was time for a bit of adventure with Navirou on Velocidrome's back running along with me. Not sure where my other two buddies were.

Running along a path I met Dan near an Aptonoth and a battle tutorial began. So this game's battle system is turn based and goes to a battle screen. I wasn't expecting this... Here I learned about choosing between power, speed and technical attacks and reading the opponent to see what'll be best against it. In this case it was choosing speed over power.

Next tutorial battle was against a Veliciprey. Looks a lot like my Velocidrome. This time it was to see how technical wins over speed attacking during head to heads.

It basically goes like this in a rock-paper-scissors kind of way for head to heads:

Speed beats Power
Power beats Technical
Technical beats Speed

Dan then left us to continue on our own after giving us a Cheer Sheet.

We fought in a few more battles. They're fun enough but they seem to take a little while to get started and finished. That amount of loading time and theatrics can add up. Hope they're not every few steps like in a conventional RPG.

We headed into the Mt. Pondry caves and found a Poogie. They're cute li'l guys and they seem to be lost all over the place — kind of like the Koroks in Breath Of The Wild.

We came up against Yellow Konchu. I also learned that you can sneak up on enemies to get a pre-emptive strike :) In this game it's called a back attack. These are little lobster like creatures and aren't too much trouble.

We pressed on to the Room of Trials with the waterfall and cleansed my Kinship Stone. Navirou congratulated me on becoming a 100% fully certified, real life Rider :) I was also now able to recruit a higher rarity level of monsters to my party too, which is cool :)

On leaving the room, the purple mist showed up and Navirou's whiskers started sparking like Pikachu's cheeks, saying he could feel a weird presence. It then showed itself. It was a Nargacuga! The same one from last year? Anyway, it was blocking the entrance and we had to fight it.

Some more mechanics started becoming available. I could now tell Monsties in the party what to do and also use the Ride move. This combines our attacks and levels up through successful head to heads. Nargacuga seemed to like using speed moves so I kept using technical moves. Then, when it went up to level 3, the Kinship move became available. In this case it was the Velocirush, which finished off the fight nicely! The Nargacuga ran away and we went home victorious!
