1 air hockey - atgames sega handheld is awesome!

Dear Readers,

I recently got one of those AtGames portable SEGA Mega Drive handhelds. It's the Sonic 25th anniversary one with 80 games on it. It's got weird sound but otherwise plays and looks well. In addition to the SEGA games it's got a bunch of arcade games with Tec Toy branding. This is one of them.

This game is a nice quick play if you're standing in a queue or something. The first to score 7 goals is the winner. The instructions say that you play against the Mega Drive, which is pretty cool. There's something really cool about reading something like that :) especially in an official SEGA Mega Drive game that was developed in the 21st century!

So yeah, nice and simple. Just two paddles and a puck. Feels great to defend and put the puck flying in all directions. There aren't any sound effects, just this rough Mega Drive guitar music that plays throughout the whole game until you win, when it plays a simple mellow tune. I haven't really lost yet, so I don't know if there's a losing theme.

It's also pretty cool how you can move your paddle anywhere on the board! That gives it an almost Atari like anarchic sensibility; something you can't do in the non-electronic version of the sport.

For the first few times I played, I always won but the score was close, and at times the Mega Drive had a lead I had to catch up on. One time I even had a perfect 7-0 score.

Another thing I like about this game, and about the Tec Toy branded games in general is that the text is nice and big and the menu options are simple and clean.
